“I’m deeply honored to have been chosen by my colleagues to lead this invaluable organization for the next two years,” comments R. Mack Babcock, attorney and founder of the Babcock Law Firm. “Being president of the WCEA will allow me the opportunity to better represent the interests of injured workers at-large across our state.”
Besides being an educational organization for workers’ compensation claimant attorneys and lobbying for specific legislation, attorneys affiliated with the WCEA also participate in various appeals each year under what is known as amicus status. Amicus Curiae is a Latin term meaning “friend of the court” and is used by groups with specialized expertise or a particular interest in a case. In the case of the WCEA, the organization will ask to participate in a particular case’s appeal that addresses an important issue relevant to workers’ compensation.
“Besides being an educational resource for attorneys and an advocacy organization for injured workers, member-attorneys of the WCEA also lend their expertise in specific cases where a clear answer may not be available to the court,” explains Babcock.
