Minister of State for Training and Skills, Ciarán Cannon joined Aurion Learning and the Irish League of Credit Unions (ILCU) to launch a powerful new training system, www.culearn.ie that is set to benefit credit unions around the country.

CU Learn will support credit unions in the booking, coordinating and tracking of training activities for their volunteers and staff and is a major development for credit unions across the country. CU Learn manages the entire training and development process, from the on-line booking, delivering and tracking of training, to assessment and reporting.

The new initiative will see the credit union movement fulfilling its obligations with regard to the new regulatory requirements on the Movement by placing a renewed emphasis on the training and education of its members.

Speaking about the new training management system, Suzanne Ryan, Head of CU Learning & Development at ILCU, commented: “The ILCU learning and development team is committed to providing a high quality training service to credit unions. Recent regulation has resulted in significant changes as to how credit unions in Ireland are governed and run. Credit union officers are required to comply with standards of competence, and in some cases hold particular qualifications and complete on-going Continuing Professional Development (CPD) training.”

Credit unions have become far more involved in ensuring minimum competence standards for all its officers. CU Learn will individualise record keeping and regulatory scrutiny of training, adapting the way training is delivered and managed for the credit union sector. CU Learn will empower individuals to have more control over their own training and development.

She added: “All credit union staff and volunteers will be able to use CU Learn to book regional and in-house training courses, register for accredited programmes, take e-learning, manage their on-going training or Continuous Professional Development (CPD), run reports including their own CPD record, and have access to up to date information on training services available to them from the ILCU.”
