Nov. 6, 2012 - PRLog -- CuriosiTea’s NYC founder Sheena Foster, who is a Harlem resident and Hurricane Katrina survivor from New Orleans,  launched Tea for Humanity in response to Hurricane Sandy’s devastation on New York City and the Tri-State area. Tea for Humanity™  was created as a non-profit, volunteer driven,  humanitarian response to bring comfort, healing and restore hope to those who were displaced by Hurricane Sandy and recovery volunteers through a cup of hot tea.

On Friday, November 2nd, Tea for Humanity™ launched at the High School for Graphic Arts in Manhattan, which was being used as an evacuation shelter for those that were displaced.  With private donations of tea, cups and supplies from individuals, the volunteers were able to serve over 1000 cups of tea in one day.

To increase capacity and outreach, Tea for Humanity began collaborating with other boutique specialty tea businesses in Manhattan which include “A Gift of Tea”, and “Tea by Tiffany" and secured sponsorship from the New York Women’s Chamber of Commerce to help solicit donations from its membership. This collaboration has brought more focus and strategic deployment on what will be a long term effort as this recovery from the devastation of Sandy continues. Other sponsors have included, Michael Coffey, TeaGeek.net, Sara Shacket’s Tea Happiness,

With over seventy volunteers signed up, Tea for Humanity established a hub partnership with Occupy Sandy’s distribution center and is operating out of The Church of St. Luke’s and St. Matthew located at 520 Clinton Avenue in Brooklyn where they are deploying volunteers to  areas where needs have been identified  throughout the five boroughs.
