David McLean serves Margate as business owner and Vice Mayor: Please Vote for him November 6th.

Nov. 5, 2012 - PRLog -- Political figures are known for their desire to serve their community’s residents, but Margate Vice Mayor David McLean has taken that concept to a whole new level. People walking into Dave’s Tiki Bar at 238 N State Road in Margate, Florida may be slightly confused thinking they are closer to the Florida Keys than to the east coast of the state. And, when they hear Elvis Presley belt out some of his old favorites, it can be downright sensational.

Opened in August, 2011 Dave’s Tiki Bar hosts a weekly Thursday karaoke night to invite patrons to belt out their personal renditions of their favorite tunes. It wouldn’t be unusual to have Dave McLean appear in full Elvis regalia and join them on the karaoke stage helping them sing such greats as Can’t Help Falling in Love or Jailhouse Rock.

Not all patrons are aware that the bar’s owner David McLean is also a Margate City Commissioner who has served the community through two terms in office. It is that business experience that gives him an advantage with city affairs, along with his other ventures as owner of Landmark Donuts, McLean’s Sports Bar and Grill and Alehouse Rock Café, where this Elvis impersonator was a frequent visitor.

With elected officials typically viewed as being detached from those they represent, some are pleasantly surprised when they learn of his position with the city. They can get a glimpse of the real person behind the official political title. Some residents are actually excited that one of their city officials gets out and meets with the people he represents.

With the Tiki bar in full panic mode on any given Thursday night Siren Sandra hosts the karaoke singers each hoping to become the next big thing to grace the stage. Beginning at 8 p.m. singers can rip into one of Elvis’ songs or choose their own from a long list of fun songs available. It is the time of the week when the almost peaceful crowd goes wild and helps the performers on stage with whatever song they are belting out.
