MIAMI - July 30, 2014 - PRLog -- Dr. Steven Gerst, pioneer and educator in the field of Health Informatics, was recently appointed as an “Entrepreneur-In-Residence to the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, U Innovation, Office of Technology Transfer, Office of the Chief Innovation Officer & Vice Provost for Innovation. His responsibilities include developing intellectual property for commercialization and mentorship for University Miller School of Medicine faculty and staff. Dr. Gerst is pleased to embark on this new endeavor as a collaborator and educational partner to UM’s Miller School of Medicine.

Dr. Steven Gerst is eager to participate in the research and development of new medical device and other technologies that will be key in implementing the restructure of healthcare delivery in the U.S. under the Affordable Care Act.  Dr. Gerst projects that new connected health medical device applications will provide groundbreaking technologies under the ACOs and Patient Centered Medical Home legislation into both the inpatient and outpatient settings, as well as mobile applications to the home.

Medical technology innovations will transform the delivery of health care in the United States, offering new solutions utilizing medical devices that will revolutionize the way treatments to patients are administered.

The need for medical device technologies to accelerate is becoming increasingly urgent due to the Affordable Care Act, as well as the demand for better and less invasive therapies, especially as the population ages.  Medical innovation is needed in the fields of diagnostics, interventional procedures and devices, therapeutic imaging, and more.
