Ben's Motorcycle Journey on the Open Road

Oct. 18, 2012 - PRLog -- Armour Self Storage Milwaukee customer, Ben Krijger, of Racine, Wisconsin is currently on the journey of a lifetime: a yearlong motorcycle trip. After picking up belongings from his Armour Milwaukee auto storage unit this summer, Ben began his trip by traveling northwest to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, by way of Canada. From Alaska, he moved south through the west coast, into Central America and on into South America where he is currently traveling. Once he hits Patagonia, he will then return up the coast of Brazil to Columbia, where he will fly into Florida and then return back home to Wisconsin in the summer of 2013.

He is traveling on a BMW 1200 GSA with Jesse Luggage, an aluminum luggage attachment for motorcycle adventurists, which he kept in perfect condition through storage in his Milwaukee auto storage unit. He chose this dual sport style motorcycle for its size and ability to perform on a wide variety of road surfaces. Because he is traveling by bike, he has packed very lightly, with most of his luggage made up of socks and underwear. He is also carrying a journal to write all about his experience during his whirlwind motorcycle adventure.

Not only is Ben a minimalist when it comes to packing, he also applies the same mentality to shelter. He spends the majority of his time sleeping under a tarp or tent on the side of the road, and will only check into a hostel for the night if there are limiting factors such as fatigue, illness or poor weather conditions. Sleeping outdoors on the side of the road is considered dangerous by many, but Ben sees the world, including the open road, as his home. He firmly believes that if you are careful and truly understand your surroundings, you have no more reason to be scared than if you were sleeping in your own house.

Ben welcomes new experiences with open arms, so much so that he has traveled to over 30 countries in his lifetime. He enjoys the thrill of traveling, having spontaneous adventures and meeting new friends. He has had the opportunity to dive into a number of different projects including building schools, volunteering in rural medical clinics, meeting with members of congress, learning new languages and experiencing all the fun the outdoors has to offer. His never ending adventurous spirit and hunger to see and experience the world is the reason he has embarked on his most recent journey.
