By: Australian Camps Association ALL SET FOR GREAT AUSSIE CAMP OUT! The Great Aussie Camp Out (GACO) is set to explode all over Australia this Saturday, 13th October, 2012. Unofficially, GACO is the world’s largest community camping event, with well over 10,000 official participants expected, and many, many more joining in! The mission behind GACO is to get more Aussies outdoors more often. A growing body of research shows that with an increasingly obese and sedentary community, the health and social benefits of spending time participating in outdoor activities with family and friends is significant. GACO aims to reignite Aussie’s love affair for camping and camping culture. GACO gives Aussies the opportunity to go camping and experience the pleasures and benefits our wonderful outdoor environment provides us. Of course, a raft of outdoors activities is part and parcel of the camping experience, such as hiking, games, camp cooking, swimming, sing-a-longs and even bush poetry! Our GACO participants camp in a huge variety of places (legally, of course!), such as in the paddock, treehouse, cave, backyard, National Park, residential camp, caravan park or even the loungeroom! While many camp with friends and family, many others use GACO as a chance to make connections with others in the camping community. Participation is free. Register online at the GACO website, www.greataussiecampout.org.au and be eligible for some great prizes. Follow us on Twitter and Facebook. According to ACA Chief Executive, David Petherick, GACO is ideal for developing a passion for Australia’s great outdoors. “Camping is addictive. When you’ve done it once, you have to go back for more”, he said. “The world opens up to those who get out there and explore. The opportunities for adventure camping gives us and our families is limited only by our imagination and the enormity of our amazing country.” END For all media enquiries, please contact: David Petherick, CEO, Australian Camps Association Ph: 0402 844 861 or 03 9365 7100 Email: dpetherick@auscamps.asn.au Web: www.auscamps.asn.au End
