Australians from all walks of life are set to celebrate National Camping Day by participating in the Great Aussie Camp Out (GACO) on Saturday 15th October.
Participation has gone through the roof - more than double last year - with over 6100 registered campers. As the world’s largest community camping event, GACO is on track to set an official world record and all Australians can get their shot at global glory!
Aussies all over will be camping in paddocks, treehouses, caves, camp grounds, backyards, and even the loungeroom!
GACO campers will be able to share their experiences the virtual camping community real time by uploading photos on the GACO website http://www.greataussiecampout.org.au, posting on the GACO Facebook page, or tweeting.
Great prizes – donated by leading outdoors retailer Anaconda - are on offer to all registered participants.
The mission behind GACO is to get more Aussies outdoors more often. With an increasingly obese and sedentary community, the health and social benefits of spending time participating in outdoor activities in the company of family and friends is immense. GACO aims to build on its significant community and social legacy.
According to ACA Chief Executive, David Petherick, GACO is ideal for the inexperienced to get into camping. “GACO is ideal for introducing the kids to the world of outdoors,” he said. “How many novices can say they’ve set a world record at their first attempt?”
