Follow on Google News | Stoke-on-Trent Firm Bags Britishness for summer celebrationsAfter hearing that 90 per cent of the London Olympics and Diamond Jubilee souvenirs were being made abroad, a Stoke-on-Trent manufacturer has spun into action and taken a stand launching the Great British Lucky Bag, a Union Jack-themed party bag.
By: Mr Sweets Ltd Mr Sweets has launched the Great British Lucky Bag, a novelty party bag featuring Union Jack-themed bunting, sweets, crayons and stickers. Managing Director Robert Cawley said: "The idea of the Great British Lucky Bag came about after I read that the press were lamenting the fact that 90 per cent of the souvenirs for the Olympics and the Queen's Diamond Jubilee were not made in the UK. It seems very incongruous to have Union Jack flags and bunting made abroad.” "Having read the articles, an idea came to me whilst sitting in a traffic jam. As we manufacture and pack in Stoke-on-Trent and use as many locally-sourced products as we can, I decided to challenge the company to produce something 100 per cent British made. And so, The Great British Lucky Bag was born." The bags are currently available through Mr Sweets’ own chain of 9 sweet shops across the north and Midlands as well as cash and carries and other selected stores. They are now hoping that other retailers will follow their patriotism and ‘buy British’. Mr Cawley added: "With the Jubilee and the Olympics both going on this year there is a very long season for flag-waving, so we want to make sure that people can wave British-made flags!” End
