April 27, 2012 - PRLog -- With her daughter and one of her “Latinnovators” in the audience, bestselling author and speaker Graciela Tiscareño-Sato picked up her first award for the book she launched at Stanford several months ago. The award in the documentary category is the perfect choice; as the American green economy picks up momentum, its voices and triumphs must first be heard, to then be emulated.

Latinnovating, the first book showcasing Latino-led innovation in the green economy, takes readers inside organizations where real, long-term sustainable practices and innovations are happening today. Latinnovating spotlights the courageous Latinos and Latinas leading these companies, innovating new ideas and technologies to retool America’s energy grid, lighting systems, fashion design, commercial printing, educational settings, communication infrastructure and much more. It uniquely connects the dots between cultural and familial lessons of conservation and creative reuse, to higher education, to the spark that caused the innovation.

“I am honored to have been chosen for this award and am so pleased with the category chosen. This collection of childhood-to-innovation stories lends itself to a powerful documentary that will change lives,” says Tiscareño-Sato. “After two years of research, interviews and writing, the past few months have been filled with many memorable moments in front of a wide variety of audiences. The journey has taken me coast to coast presenting at universities, business schools, educational conferences, middle schools, high schools and professional networking events. It’s amazing to now see this work recognized by those in the movie industry. I’m happy they see what I see - these rich stories have much to teach students and professionals in transition,” added Tiscareño-Sato.

"Revelatory and timely, Latinnovating is vital reading for job seekers and career changers, as well as entrepreneurs seeking ideas on how to make their own businesses green," said Former Simon & Schuster editor Marcela Landres as she reviewed the book. Landres is the author of the e-book How Editors Think.

Published by a small independent publisher in the San Francisco Bay Area and launched at the 2011 Silicon Valley Latino Leadership Summit, Latinnovating has already sold several thousand copies. The author is actively book speaking engagements at universities, educational and industry conferences for the remainder of 2012. The author is currently engaging with potential partners to bring the Spanish translation of the Latinnovating book to market, something she’s asked for at many events where she speaks.

The Latino Books into Movies Awards were presented from the HOY Stage during the very active weekend of book-related activities at USC. The judges for these awards are film industry professionals: producers, directors, screenwriters, and film financiers. The judges included Ruben Arvizu, Kevin Bender, Nora de Hoyos Comstock, Benjamin Esparza, Paul Espinosa, and several others. Kirk Whisler and Annie Perez of Latino Literacy Now oversaw the awards process.

Latino Literacy Now sponsors include Scholastic, Libros Publishing and Las Comadres Para Las Americas. Latino Literacy Now’s Latino Book & Family Festival earlier this month held its 49th event in Chicago. The Festivals have drawn over 800,000 attendees over the past two decades. The 14th Annual International Latino Book Awards will be held June 5th at Instituto Cervantes in New York City.
