Men buy, spend more on personalized gifts in bricks and mortar stores than women

April 23, 2012 - PRLog -- The 2nd Annual Personalized Gifts Survey of 448 respondents was conducted recently to gauge where and how men and women shop for personalized gifts.

It's In The Stars at http://www.itsinthestarsonline.com which regularly conducts gift-giving surveys found that men outspent women in buying personalized gifts, spending more and buying more of them, and the biggest surprise, that they were more likely to buy them from bricks-and-mortar stores.than online.

CEO of It's In The Stars, Elizabeth Ball said that 91.1% of men compared to only 78.6% of women spent over $100 on personalized gifts last year.

"Not only that, 91.6% of men compared to only 82.8% of women bought two or more personalized gifts in 2011, and they were slightly more likely than women to have bought four or more of them (34.0% vs 30.1%)," Elizabeth Ball said.

Men were more likely than women to have bought their personalized gifts in department stores, mall kiosks, and chain stores (67.4% vs 59.4%).

"However, women were more likely to buy them online than men (20.9% vs 13.7%)," Elizabeth Ball said.

She said prestige and personalization were important attributes which men and women valued equally, but men were more attracted than women by the gifts’ ego appeal (29.8% vs 24.6%) while women were five times more likely to value uniqueness (15.4% vs 3.4%).

According to the survey, the top five personalized occasions to give a personalized gift are for  birthdays (25.7%), babies (20.8%), Mother’s Day (19.4%), Christmas (18.5%) and Father’s Day (18.3%).
