April 8, 2012 - PRLog -- Montgomery IL -4/8/2012 Photo-ER who was the recipient on March 8th of 11 containers of fire and water damaged photographs for photo repair and restoration has completed the task of estimating the cost and its inventory of the damaged material.  Ken Mindar, restoration technician and owner, of Photo-ER acknowledges it is the largest single restoration venture undertaken by the company.
“Photo-ER was approached October 2011 by a customer from Massachusetts regarding handling of a very large fire related photo repair and restoration project involving generations of history and memories.” according to Mindar.  ”Our expertise in the field of separating water damaged photos stuck togeth led to us on March 8, 2012 eleven containers weighing over 250 lbs to estimate procedure costs and undertake the salvaging, photo repair and photo restoration required to restore as much of the fire damaged material as could be possible.”
The restoration estimate has been completed and the totals of the damaged photographic images compiled.  Of the 250 pounds of material received and individually inspected the breakdown is impressive.  Near nine thousand images are involved and considered salvageable, 7,736 are photo prints of which 3,428 are photos stuck together, blocks, to be separated and 899 color slide to clean and archived.  Many photographs date back to the 1870’s of which 510 will require digital restoration of various degrees posing a challenge for the restoration technicians.  “The scope and shear amount of the damaged material is further amplified by the knowledge that this charred material is what remains of three generations of memories and Photo-ER is responsible to restore them” Mindar said
Photo-ER with over 45 years of extensive photographic, photo lab and art background has provided photo repair and photo restoration services from a brick and mortar location near Chicago, IL, to their on line web site for the past decade.  The business had seen that photographs involved and damaged in fire and water tragedies were for the most part considered as lost and primarily discarded.  Particularly those photos stuck together from water and heat damage.  Working on this problem for a number of years it has developed salvaging techniques where damaged photos stuck and dried together could be successfully separated with little or no damage to the image.  Photo-ER now can handle large quantities of damaged material with a minimum of a 97% success rate when undertaking this form of salvaging and photo recovery.  “Of the 8,700 plus damaged images we received on March 8th, with the aid of digital measuring equipment we have already determined that 3,428 photos alone were stuck together in blocks of all the material received.  Some of the images date back to the late 1800 and early 1900’s which are brittle and will be our biggest challenge and most delicate to handle. ” Mindar said.
Once the photographs have been separated they are subjected to numerous wash baths and photo cleaners before being dried in their heated photo dryers.  If no further damage is visible or in need to have repair they are returned intact.  If repair is needed the photos are digitally reproduced, photo repaired and commercial photo prints are produced or the images is archived.  Their ability, Photo-ER, to recover those photo memories and then performing needed photo repairs with a high degree of success gives them the confidence and control to bring back those treasured memories beyond what was previously thought possible.
“People are not aware of this service we offer and whether they have a few or hundreds of photos stuck together they panic and try to do the fix on their own with disastrous results.  Years of memories just end up at the bottom of a trash can,” according to Mindar.  “With our services, skill and photo lab experience those memories can be salvaged for enjoyment of generations to come giving us the greatest satisfaction”.
