Trifecta Gallery presents Benjamin Schmitt “Pestis Pestis” in the Attachment Room March 1-3

March 2, 2012 - PRLog -- Trifecta Gallery’s Attachment Room will feature emerging artist Benjamin Schmitt from March 1-31. The exhibition will showcase work he created for his first Las Vegas solo exhibition “Pestis Pestis” a series of acrylic on canvas two dimensional paintings that depict the molecules of a particular disease.

Schmitt studied images of disease on a molecular level to create the series which depicts chronic diseases such as Ebola and cancer in a more attractive format.

“By making these microscopic entities visible, they are stripped of their volatility and rendered harmless,” he said. “In this way they are also drawn into our vernacular.”

The painting process is painstaking for Schmitt. It takes hours and hours to study each cell and his work is created by dripping paint from an eye dropper and spreading it with a one-haired paintbrush.

He says the creation of the work is both meticulous and methodical. The amorphous shapes of the disease when painted hover between representational and abstraction where beauty materializes through the combination of universals such as color, line and surface tension.

“Benjamin’s paintings are fascinating to look at, “ Marty Walsh owner of Trifecta Gallery said. “Then when you find out what they are, each painting takes on a deeper meaning depending upon someone’s own life experiences.

Schmitt received his bachelor of fine arts degree in printmaking and painting from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington in 2003. His work has been a part of group exhibitions at Wright Gallery in Seattle. He is also in the Mary Alice Cooley Permanent Art Collection. He began making his home in Las Vegas in 2011.
