GrubPack Announces New Rodent-Proof, Camping Food Bag with a ZIPPER and Velcro Closure!

GrubPack has traditionally used a wide polyester Velcro for sealing the bag.  They have recently introduced a new animal-proof food bag using a zipper closure in combination with the standard Velcro seal!

"This is our new premium bag" states GrubPack owner Jeff Walker.  "We have developed an option whereby we add a heavy-duty, weather-proof zipper just inside of our standard Velcro seal.  This combination will baffle the cleverest of pesky critters and will reseal tightly after thousands of uses."  

According to Mr. Walker, the new zipper model (Option Z)  GrubPack was developed for three reasons.  

Reason 1: Trails with heavy human use are seeing hungry animals who are learning to adapt to new challenges.  "If you've ever tried to keep squirrels out of your backyard bird feeder, you have probably seen firsthand just how clever a small rodent can be"  Mr. Walker said.  He continued  "Mice, squirrels, raccoons and other small animals seem to observe humans and mimic our moves.  They learn to gain access to our food by watching us and pass what they learn to their next generation.  We felt that certain heavily-used trails have animals that have observed humans repeatedly and progressed to the point where a second barrier is becoming necessary.  We are confident that the zipper adds a second line of defense that will outwit  the smartest critter on any trail."   Walker emphasizes that the zipper is used in addition to the Velcro seal.  A clever animal would have to have both the strength to pull the Velcro open AND the strength and knowledge to operate the zipper.  "This is a highly unlikely combination of physical strength and acquired knowledge"  Walker said.  He then went on: "We know that weight is a primary concern for backpackers.  Users who count ounces will appreciate the fact that the new GrubPack zipper option adds less than an ounce and a half to the standard GrubPack weight."

Reason 2: Any Velcro (hook and loop) seal will lose an increasing percentage of its holding power after repeated openings and closings.  Though Velcro will provide a secure seal for several hundred uses, the zipper will not lose holding power even after several thousand uses.  Mr. Walker explains "We target the new GrubPack zipper option towards users who tend to do several outdoor adventures a year and who plan to do so for years to come.  This new GrubPack will last most users a lifetime.  We also encourage our new 'Z' models for hikers headed to the Grand Canyon and Appalachian Trail.  These are heavily hiked locations where some animals have adapted to dealing with many types fasteners and closing devices.  This dual closure will outwit any small animal."
