Pipeline to Local Office Encourages Women Candidates, Volunteers

Jan. 9, 2012 - PRLog -- ST. LOUIS – The Sue Shear Institute for Women in Public Life at the University of Missouri–St. Louis announces their workshop, Pipeline to Local Office, which encourages women candidates and their supporters. The two-evening campaign training is 6:00 p.m.–9:00 p.m., Monday, January 23, and Wednesday, January 25, 2012. The workshop is designed for women interested in running for municipal offices as well as those interested in volunteering on a campaign.

Participants in the Pipeline to Local Office Program will learn how to refine a campaign plan and budget, target voters, fundraise successfully, plan strategies for getting voters to the polls, and develop skills for successful speaking. Women who have held local office or have worked on successful local campaigns will be the workshop faculty.

More than 50 percent of past participants have gone on to win seats as mayors, city council and school board members. Recent successful candidates in past year’s classes include St. Charles City Councilwoman Mary Ann Ohms, Kirkwood City Councilwoman Gina Jaksetic, Greendale Mayor Monica Huddelston and Normandy Schoolboard Members Joyce McRath and Pepper Clifton.
