Capstone Donates 50,000 Children’s Books to Books for Africa

Jan. 5, 2012 - PRLog -- Capstone, a leading publisher of children’s books and digital products and services, announces a donation of 50,000 books to Books for Africa, the largest shipper of donated text and library books to the African continent.

This is Capstone’s fourth major donation to Books for Africa in the last few years. In 2009 Capstone donated more than 37,000 books to the organization and in 2010 donated 300,000 books, the publisher’s largest donation in its history.

“Capstone is proud to help support Books for Africa’s mission to end the book famine in Africa. Education and literacy are the most powerful ways out of poverty, and our donation of books will go to children most in need. For most, our books will be the first they have ever owned,” said Lisa Hanson, Director of Human Resources.

The donated books will travel from the publishers’ warehouse in Mankato, Minn., to the Books for Africa warehouse in St. Paul, Minn. From there the books will be sorted and packaged for shipment to Africa.  

Since 1988, Books For Africa has shipped more than 24 million books to 45 countries across Africa. In the past year, Books For Africa shipped approximately 1.9 million books to 21 African countries.

Capstone has a rich history of philanthropy in local communities and those abroad. Last year alone, the company supported more than 250 organizations’ initiatives through book donations, sponsorships, scholarships and employee volunteer time.
