Nov. 30, 2011 - PRLog -- Third Party Logistics Provider (3PL) LeanCor Supply Chain Group and the Lean Enterprise Institute (LEI) have partnered to offer a two-day workshop January 17-18, 2012 that teaches how to apply lean principles to the extended enterprise, beginning with extended value-stream mapping to uncover waste.

Based on the LEI workbook Building the Lean Fulfillment Stream, this workshop teaches how to calculate “total cost of ownership” for material purchases, cut lead time and inventory, develop customer and supplier measurement systems, break down cross-functional barriers, implement pull systems for material replenishment, and establish supply-chain visibility.

The workshop is being conducted at the LeanCor Supply Chain Group Operations Center located in Florence, KY to enable participants to "go see" lean principles and best practices applied to logistics engineering and transportation management processes. It will reinforce concepts learned in class by demonstrating visual management, pull vs. push, standard work, PDCA, problem solving tools, quality at the source, and continuous improvement.

“We believe that while classroom-based education is important, true learning occurs only at the gemba,” said Olga Flory, Director of Lean Education at the Lean Enterprise Institute. “In the context of the open-enrollment education, we cannot travel to every attendee’s gemba. This is why we chose the second best approach; i.e. taking attendees to the operations of LeanCor - so they can have a common experience and learn by reflecting as a group.”
