Nov. 8, 2011 - PRLog -- National Silver Medallist Band, Bournemouth Concert Brass, is hosting a ‘Sounds of Christmas’ concert on Tuesday 6 December at the Royal Bath Hotel, in Bournemouth, in aid of two local charities - Diverse Abilities Plus and Life Education Wessex.

The ticketed event, that is sure to get you into the Christmas spirit, will raise vital funds for Diverse Abilities Plus, the only Dorset charity that provides lifetime support to children and adults with varying disabilities across the county and Life Education Wessex, which provides health and drug education programmes to over 72,000 primary school children each year in Dorset, Devon and Somerset.

Those attending are encouraged to arrive at 6.45pm for the drinks reception and listen to the sounds of Park School Choir, who will be entertaining guests with Christmas carols. Bournemouth Concert Brass will then commence their performance at 7.30pm.

Helen Alexander, Fundraising Manager at Diverse Abilities Plus, said: “Diverse Abilities Plus is really excited about the ‘Sounds of Christmas’ concert. It is set to be a fantastic evening of really great Christmas music, performed by a super band, to ensure that all the audience leave feeling wonderfully festive.

“As a local charity it means a great deal to us to be supported by the Bournemouth Concert Brass.  The funds raised from this event will hugely help the charity provide respite for hundreds of children with profound physical and learning disabilities in Dorset, and their families.“

Lorraine Hewitt, Corporate Development Fundraiser of Life Education Wessex, said: “We are delighted to have been chosen by Bournemouth Concert Brass as one of the beneficiaries of this prestigious event.  This donation will make a real difference and could not have come at a better time for the charity.  Without the generous support of organisations like Bournemouth Concert Brass we simply could not continue our work delivering providing Health and Drug prevention education. Both our charities are extremely grateful for the support given by E Coleman Insurance, who is the lead sponsor of the event”

Bournemouth Chamber of Trade and Commerce is kindly supporting the event and Nigel Hedges, President of The Chamber, said:  “Christmas is such a special time and allows us to focus on what is important in life, which is good friends, happiness, health and the consideration of others.  The BCTC is delighted to support ‘Sounds of Christmas’ which will benefit two such worthy charities.”

Tickets for the event are priced at £12.50 and can be purchased from Martin Collett who can be contacted on 01202 657425 or email mjcol@btinternet.com. Tickets can also be purchased online at www.soundsofchristmas.eventbrite.co.uk

Editors Notes
Diverse Abilities Plus is a charity that has been supporting children and adults with Cerebral Palsy and associated disabilities working in the County of Dorset, England for 55 years. The charity provides a range of assistance, support and education services for young people aged two to 19, adults and families. Services include:
•   Langside School – independent, non maintained specialist day school for children and young people from the age of two to 19 years who have PMLD (profound and multiple learning disabilities). It’s one of only 19 similar SEN (special education needs) schools in the UK.
•   Smithers – provides overnight and day short breaks. Short breaks help families manage the challenges of providing full time care for their child. A visit can be during the day or a ‘sleep over’ allowing the child to make and meet friends and relax and enjoy themselves.
•   Shapes – provides home support (domiciliary care) for children and young people aged between two and 18 with individually tailored programs.
•   Project My Time – provides child-led holiday activities that give young people with disabilities the same leisure and fun opportunities that their peers enjoy.
•   Barnabas – a well equipped day setting for adults. Adults can learn new skills and enjoy a wide range of experiences.
•   Supported living – this service is for people who live in their own home but may need up to 24/7 support.
•   Disability Wessex - offers assistance with disability benefits for people with disabilities or chronic and acute health conditions and their families or carers, as well as the parents of disabled children.
•   Play Opportunities - supports families with disabled children to have a chance to get out and enjoy themselves with other families in similar situations.
•   Awesome Days and Awesome Nights – A youth group, set up and run by young people of all abilities, aged between 13 - 19 years.
•   Face 2 Face – a free and confidential network of trained volunteer befrienders, who support parents to make positive adjustments to the news that their child has a disability or additional need. Every Face2Face befriender is a parent whose own child has a disability. They know what it's like to cope with a new diagnosis and can offer support parent to parent.

The charity was founded in 1955 by Mrs Phyllis Edwards who formed a group of parents intent on providing better opportunities for their children with physical and learning disabilities.
