Rita MacCallon of The Park Pet Retreat Wins An ActionCOACH Business Award

Sept. 29, 2011 - PRLog -- Rita MacCallon, owner of The Park Pet Retreat, is the winner of the prestigious ActionCOACH Focus Award for goals achieved in Quarter 3, 2011.

The ActionCOACH FOCUS Award was introduced in 2009 and is presented only to one-on-one coaching clients in the ActionCOACH Community who accomplish tremendous results in their business in a calendar quarter.

Rita MacCallon had worked in the corporate world for 30 years and was ready for a real change.  MacCallon says, “I have 5 dogs and had noted how much it cost me to board them and saw this business as a potential money maker.  I also was excited about being part of and managing a “big picture” where I could implement my ideas and decisions.”

MacCallon’s immediate goal for The Park is to open The Park Training Academy and have it get off to a strong start.  Following that she would like to explore the possibility of franchising.  The long-term goal for The Park Pet Retreat is to be a recognized well-known brand in the Atlanta Metro area and potentially expand nationally.

MacCallon states the biggest challenge facing her customer base is cash flow.  “This industry is very seasonal and when things are slow, there is not enough cash in the bank to meet the fixed expenses.   Having cash in the bank is very important to a seasonal business.”  

During the first few years of establishing the business, MacCallon invested a great deal into multiple advertising mediums; currently she knows what works and can therefore make adjustments to marketing dollars.

MacCallon states The Park is unique because “We offer 24-hour, cage-free, attended care, which is a new and unique concept in the doggie daycare and boarding field. This means that your dog plays cage-free during the day and they sleep cage-free when they are boarding with us.  We have ‘Park Rangers’ on duty 24 hours a day to watch over these precious pets to ensure their safety and wellbeing.  Your pup will never be put into a crate or kennel and will never be left alone!”

In being coached by ActionCOACH Rick Plasket MacCallon states, “With Coach Rick’s encouragement, knowledge and motivation I have added personnel, services and income to my business.   I had been procrastinating about adding a second groomer, but made the decision to move ahead and we have seen a 30% increase in grooming sales.  Brainstorming with Coach Rick about how to inspire my staff has led me to encourage and motivate them to commit to being a part of our success rather than just employees.  We saw a 20% increase in July sales versus 2010, and are seeing Year-To-Date increase of 12%.
