E Light Completes Henderson Parking Garage: Lighting Retrofit Saves 50% in Electricity Costs

Sept. 7, 2011 - PRLog -- E Light Electric Services, Inc. recently completed a lighting efficiency upgrade at the Henderson Parking Garage for the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Located at the corner of East Montview Boulevard and Scranton Street in Aurora, this 6-level, 1,535 space parking garage was completed in September 2007 and received lighting upgrades in July 2011.

This lighting retrofit project reused the existing fixture housings by replacing all 408, 150-watt metal halide lamps and ballasts with 80-watt induction driven lamps. The old ballasts, lamps and sockets were collected and recycled. The new fixtures have a 100,000-rated lamp life and require little to no maintenance. This retrofit is estimated to save nearly 50% in annual electricity costs.

Installation Made Easy
A clever way of communicating the lighting retrofit to garage users was designed and constructed by E Light’s creative team. Temporary “NO PARKING” signs were hung on the fixtures positioned directly above parking spaces using custom, prefabricated sign hangers. Roping off entire levels of this busy garage was not an option. To beat the traffic, our electricians started work early each day to close-off individual parking spaces. The signs were easily transferred and reused throughout the project, as this process provided a very efficient, cost effective and customer friendly work environment for our electricians.

Safety Top Priority
Safety is a top priority at E Light Electric, as our electricians used hardhats mounted with spotlights and wore fluorescent safety vests at all times to remain visible in the active parking garage. And finally, the existing fixtures were brought up to NEC code by adding luminaire safety disconnects.
