Follow on Google News | LSU Health Shreveport’s Wound Management Program First in USPhysical Therapy Post-Graduate Residency Program in Wound Management at LSU Health Shreveport is the first to be credentialed by the American Physical Therapy Assocation.
Residency and Fellowship programs in Physical Therapy are credentialed by the American Physical Therapy Association’ As the pioneer for such a program, LSU Health developed its practice analysis with the coordinated input of wound care practitioners from around the country. “We are thrilled to be recognized as a leader in wound care,” said Dr. Joseph McCulloch, Dean of the School of Allied Health Professions at LSU Health. “Having the distinct honor of being the first credentialed program will allow us to attract top talent and better serve those with critical injuries in our area.” The LSU Health Wound Management Residency is under the direction of Stanley McCallon, PT, DPT, CWS. Individuals accepted into the program must hold a doctoral degree in physical therapy and be licensed to practice in Louisiana. To date, two residents have graduated from the program and a third has recently begun the yearlong post-graduate rotation. In addition to the Wound Management Residency, the Department of Physical Therapy operates an established post-graduate residency focusing on Orthopedics and Practice Management in Physical Therapy. This program has grown to an enrollment of three residents per year. Resident training for both programs occurs within the School of Allied Health Professions Clinic and the University Hospital. In addition, orthopedic physical therapy residents gain skills in practice management through a collaborative endeavor with PT Pros, a private practice based in Somerset, KY. End
