New MJC IT System For Birmingham Rathbone

Rathbone, one of Birmingham’s biggest charities, has fully upgraded and enhanced its IT infrastructure which was supplied by MJC Group. Its aim is to provide an effective and efficient centralised system across all of its network of sites.

Aug. 23, 2011 - PRLog -- Birmingham Rathbone supports and works with some 900 people each year who have mild to moderate learning difficulties. Services include education and training courses; housing and supported living services and a supported employment programme. The new IT System from MJC Group http://www.mjcgroup.co.uk/news allows for enhanced communication and information-sharing amongst staff, which fulfils their mission of enabling clients to achieve their full potential and to participate as fully as possible within the community.

MJC Group have worked with Birmingham Rathbone for my many years on their IT system, so they were the first choice to design, plan, supply, implement and support a brand new IT infrastructure that would enable the charity to further excel in their area of expertise of delivering specialist educational services. The cutting edge technology installed consisted of the Windows Remote Desktop (Terminal Services) platform, running Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise Edition and Windows Thin Client. Plus, Windows SharePoint for their intranet and Guardian back-up and disaster recovery http://www.mjcgroup.co.uk/guardian-data-recovery , MJC Group’s own business continuity product range. The new system installed by MJC Group, IT Solutions Division, is expected to last at least five years.

The new system will put Birmingham Rathbone in a stronger position to bid for greater resources to expand and improve their provision further, through streamlined processes and enhanced communication. The project has been funded by the Department of Health, through a grant of £153,123 from the Social Enterprise Investment Fund (SEIF).

Chris Bates, Birmingham Rathbone’s Chief Executive said: “This is a wonderful boost for us as we have been able to create a first class IT system which benefits our clients and the organisation, and which puts us in a strong position for future development of our services to people with learning difficulties”.

Sue Peters, Managing Director of Investments at The Social Investment Business, which manages the SEIF, said: “We are delighted that the contribution from the Department of Health SEIF has meant Birmingham Rathbone can install a new IT system that will further enhance the organisation’s ability to support people with learning difficulties”.

Managing Director, Ian Williamson, reflects on the importance of MJC Group’s partnership with Birmingham Rathbone and says “The invaluable work that Birmingham Rathbone carries out in the community must be supported by a solid IT infrastructure that provided true flexibility to all users, and allows for strategic growth and development.” Ian adds “It was a complex project that the Team worked tirelessly to ensure minimum disruption, yet maximum success.”
