Aug. 9, 2011 - PRLog -- Sad scenes in London as the riots extended into a third day and threaten today with more ugly behaviour. David Cameron has finished his holiday early due to the severity of the waves of riots that have extended out into other cities such as Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester. Once the Prime Minister manages to get the situation under control, enquiries will be made into the policing methods and escalation processes in such dramatic circumstances.

With most major catastrophes in the world nowadays, social media gets a mention and in particular Twitter. In the case of the London rioting, BBM and Twitter have been publicised as media used to build awareness of the horrendous activities that begun in Tottenham, North London on the weekend. In terms of Twitter, it is bizarre that a criminal would advertise their criminal acts to the world. BlackBerry Messenger has been connected to gang communication - mobile instant messaging is perfect for this type of activity. Blackberry UK have tweeted that they will be sharing data with the authorities to make their jobs easier.

Then we see a positive reflection of UK society: enter the 'Riot Wombles' hashtag on Twitter. As the events in London have caused such widespread damage, the communities are rallying around to clear up the mess left by the terrible riots. This trend has exploded overnight on Twitter and sends out a superb message in the UK's capital: that community support is there for businesses and individuals affected by the despicable blazes of terror.

David Cameron's statement after a meeting with the Cobra crisis committee confirmed the bolstering up of the police presence from 6000 officers to 16,000. "We will do everything necessary to restore order" said the PM and went on to add: "You will feel the full force of law, if you are old enough to commit the crime, you are old enough to receive punishment."

Sad times for the capital of the United Kingdom. To all of the supporters of the #riotwombles we salute you!
