US companies with aging fleets are interested in  less greedy fuel  aircrafts which is the case of the Airbus NEO A320 aircraft.

Airbus,which has just won a great victory with the historical American Airlines contract of 460 aircraffts has an historic opportunity to conquer new American customers with the A 320 NEO  aircraft. US companies are ready to generate a wave of giant commands to renew their fleet.

As American Airlines, Delta airlines that merged with Continental are equipped with aging fleets, especially on the segment of short and mid-haul. The aging fleets are  more expensive to maintain (DC 8, Fokker 100, MD 80, Boeing 737-300, 400 and 500 but also B 757 and 767, etc.) and will soon be retired. Aviation experts believe that 5000 aircraft of this type will be replaced in the short term of which 70% are in service in the United States. Based on these numbers, 820 aircrafts have more than 25 years old and 4400 more than 15 years. Therefore a peak of  commands from the United States is expected to happen and will generate a peak of deliveries in 2016  for Airbus in Toulouse.

Prior to being awarded the American Airlines contract, Airbus was already present in the US market where it had sold 2600 aircrafts. The European constructor sucessfully managed to concentrate on another market with  low-costs companies. For example JetBlue fleet is composed 100% of Airbus A 320. It will count 202 by 2012. On the other side,  the presence of Airbus is modest in the majors.
