Born and raised in Winston-Salem, NC, 9th Wonder has been immersed in Hip-Hop music and its culture since 1982, while gaining experience in music theory throughout middle and high school. While attending North Carolina Central University, he decided to pursue a career in music and soon met rappers Phonte and Big Pooh and they would join forces to become the critically acclaimed and highly lauded trio Little Brother. The collaboration would ultimately place 9th Wonder on a national platform.

9th Wonder soon became one of Hip-Hop’s most coveted producers. His first major label project was producing a track on Jay-Z’s classic, THE BLACK ALBUM. 9th Wonder would go on to produce for music heavy hitters such as Destiny’s Child, Mary J. Blige, De La Soul, Mos Def, Memphis Bleek and Buckshot from Black Moon. His current body of work includes notables such as such as Lloyd Banks, Sean Price and The Game.

Remaining true to his roots, 9th Wonder still resides in North Carolina and is dedicated to the community by playing an intricate role in music industry education initiatives that grant students the opportunity to earn scholarships to attend his alma mater, NCCU. He was appointed an Artist in Residence in the fall of 2006 and has since helped develop courses that study the development and cultural history of Hip-Hop, including the legendary James Brown, up to the death of The Notorious B.I.G. in 1997. 9th Wonder is currently an adjunct professor at Duke University, while still traveling the country lecturing at various universities and continuing to create great music!
