Buffalo, New York – The Buffalo Screams Horror Film Festival announced that actress and filmmaker Melantha Blackthorne will join Roy Frumkes as a guest at the festival’s 2011 edition, which runs October 26th – 30th at the Screening Room Cinema Café in Buffalo, New York. In addition, Frumkes, who will receive the festival’s “Dedication to Excellence in Independent Filmmaking Award,” will screen two of his films, STREET TRASH and THE DEFINITIVE DOCUMENT OF THE DEAD.
Blackthorne is known to genre fans for her work in COUNTESS BATHORIA’S GRAVEYARD PICTURE SHOW, SHE DEMONS OF THE BLACK SUN, and DEATH RACE. She will screen her short film, “Inbred and Undead,” which she directed and introduces, which premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival.
“Melantha lives in Montreal, but she’s been a real presence in Buffalo,” says filmmaker Emil J. Novak, one of the festival’s directors, who worked with Blackthorne on Red Scream’s PRISON OF THE PSYCHOTIC DAMNED and cast her in his upcoming film BANSHEE. “I know her fans, friends, and colleagues look forward to her return.”
Buffalo Screams 2011 is billed as “Five Nights of Fear” because it expanded to five nights after the success of its 2010 run. Last year’s big winner, EL MONSTRO DEL MAR, received a theatrical release in digital cinemas through indieFilmNet after Bob Golibersuch, who owns the Screening Room Cinema Café and programs IFN’s horror series, saw it at the festival. Film and screenplay submissions are open until September 15th.
