Recommendations For Underfloor Heating Systems

With any product, there are always recommendations on how to use it to its full potential - underfloor heating is no different.

May 26, 2011 - PRLog -- Firstly, it is recommended to have at least two zones for any ground floor property with underfloor heating water if the area is below 150 sq m. If the underfloor heating area is one large room, then one room thermostat is fine.

It is also recommended that you use two port valves for the underfloor heating system by the boiler.  It is important to ensure that the boiler does not fire when there is no demand for underfloor heating.  If radiators are used on the First Floor and underfloor heating on the Ground Floor, use a 2 port valve for each floor and if a hot water cylinder is fitted, this should also have a 2 port valve.

Additionally, all the insulation requirements must apply to current building regulations.  Ground Floor insulation requirement should be limited so that the downward heat losses are no more than 10 W/sq m.

If a suspended floor is in contact with air below the Ground Floor then the floor must have extra insulation to prevent excess amount of downward heat losses from the system.

If the property is over many floors, it is important that each floor will have it’s own insulation. This will prevent any overheating issues.

Finally, underfloor heating manifolds should be located centrally between the rooms being heated.  If some rooms are far away from the underfloor heating manifolds, the feeder pipework to the rooms should be insulated or routed into the insulation to prevent any heating losses.
