May 18, 2011 - PRLog -- Treasure Island, CA - This press release replaces the version released on May 13, 2011 that omitted mention of event sponsor California Department of Boating and Waterways.  The correct press release that includes credit given to California Department of Boating and Waterways follows:

Treasure Island, CA, May 18, 2011 – Treasure Island Sailing Center (TISC) is hosting its second annual local water safety event on San Francisco Bay on Saturday, May 21, in observance of National Safe Boating Week.  Organizations including the U.S. Coast Guard, San Francisco Police Department Marine Unit, U.S. Coast Guard Aids to Navigation (ATON), San Francisco Fire Department, American Red Cross, and U.S. Power Squadrons, will be on hand to provide instruction to the public on safe boating and water sport practices. The first 100 visitors to this event receive a free life jacket provided by event sponsor California Department of Boating and Waterways.

According to the California Department of Boating and Waterways accidents and statistics for 2009, in Northern California waterways, there were 321 boating accidents that resulted in 229 injuries and 27 fatalities. Of the 19 victims who drowned, 15 of them were not wearing a life jacket.

“San Francisco Bay is one of the most popular boating destinations, and like all waterways, year-round, reminds us of the importance of safe boating and wearing a life jacket,” said Lacey Todd, operations manager of TISC. “For this event, we’re partnering with local organizations to stage demonstrations and activities to help educate people that acting responsibly on the water saves lives.  We will have tours of a San Francisco Police Department police boat, a Coast Guard boat, a water display from a San Francisco Fire Department fireboat, instruction on proper life jacket fit, and plenty of activities for the children.”

For entertainment there will be free boat rides, music, door prizes, and a grand prize drawing for a free sailing class from TISC.  People who sign up for a sailing or water sports class during the event will receive 10 percent off, offer valid only at the National Safe Boating Week event.

Bay Area face painting artist Rose Delfino, owner of At The Top Creations (http://www.atthetopcreations.com) will be available to entertain the kids.

There will also be a barbecue lunch available for $3 per person, $10 for families of four, with scholarships available for those in need.
