Shredding Family Has Appetite For Destruction

May 17, 2011 - PRLog -- For people who don’t know, Shredall is one of the UK's largest independently owned shredding and storage companies.  Originally set up by Lloyd Williams and a sleeping partner back in 1997, it was the only second mobile shredding company in Europe.

Information security is increasingly in the media spotlight, with regular reports of high profile information security breaches by everyone from national security to low level business.

Businesses are now more than ever aware of the need to act responsibly and legally with their data, and with this in mind Lloyd decided to form his business.

“After twenty years in the printing industry, I saw an advert for a shredding company in a newspaper and realised there was a gap in the market for another company – I put my plans into action as soon as I was able to, took the chance and established Shredall.”

In April 2010, Lloyd bought out his partner after 13 years, with the intentions of making Shredall and SDS a wholly owned family business.

Since the takeover, Lloyd’s children Lucy (29) and Nick (27) have been invited to join the Board of Directors.  Lloyd felt they had earned it as young professionals in their own right through their valuable input and hard work for the company over the last few years. Lucy is now the Director of SDS (Shredall Data Storage), overseeing the smooth running of the data file storage and data scanning arm of the business, whilst Nick has become the Group Sales Director responsible for the companies sales in London, Nottingham and Glasgow. Both Lucy and Nick have grasped what are extremely demanding roles with open arms and risen to the challenges set by their father.

As Shredall has grown across the UK, they have always tried to recruit from the local community, for operative, management, sales and support positions.

Shredall have recently installed and commissioned a brand new Shred-Tech ST35 shredding machine and are due to take delivery of a brand new mobile document shredder with a shredding output of 2000kgs per hour onsite for witnessed shredding at their customer’s doors.  The newly installed static shredder will double their daily shredding capability from 11 tonnes per day to 22 tonnes per day offsite, whilst their new 18 tonne MDS mobile shredding machine is the most up to date onsite shredding machine in Europe.  Costing a combined £215,000 the state of the art machines are made from light weight aluminium rather than the cast iron machinery of old.

These market leaders will also be more cost effective and environmentally friendly. Operating on less power than previous machines they will greatly reduce emissions and electricity costs, falling in line with Shredall’s ISO14000 environmental commitments. The two new investments conform to EN 15713 shred sizes and Shredall’s industry standard AAA NAID Codes of Practices. Both machines also have soft start motor configurations and magic eyes that stop the machines from reversing, assisting the reduction of emissions and electricity to half that of the companies previous machinery.

Lloyd comments, “These two new state of the art machines have made us more competitive, cost effective and greener and will hopefully increase our local market share in the process”, Williams added: “Shredall will gradually be spending less time on our customer’s sites but we will continue to assist them in conforming to the new Data Protection laws where potential fines have recently increased from £5000 to £500,000.”

Shredall is also pleased to announce its involvement with charity work, with big involvement at the moment in tree planting schemes around the world, working with Carbon Projects Ltd to realise this initiative.  As a thank you to loyal customers Shredall will be planting trees during 2011, a tree will be planted for all new customers joining Shredall. The second project is with an overseas organisation, established in 1989, which aims to help communities around the world plant trees. This is done in a number of ways including, seed distribution, agro forestry training and empowering rural groups to restore native woodlands. Shredall is helping with a project in Brazil and have donated 400 trees to a project this Christmas. The planting of trees in this region helps to prevent soil erosion, and over the growth cycle of the trees they will absorb many tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere. This helps to reduce the greenhouse gas in the atmosphere, which has been linked to global warming.

Lloyd said: “I never envisaged my children would even work for me let alone become my co-directors. However, it makes me extremely proud that they have become such valuable assets in such a short time. Between the three of us we hope to grow the company on a significant scale. There is an amazing buzz of running a family business and we are all excited about what the future holds for Shredall.
