Shoppers' paradise comes to care home

May 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Barking Hall, which has a rating of ‘Excellent’ from the Care Quality Commission, wanted to treat those residents, who are no longer able to enjoy shopping trips to town.

Activities Co-ordinator, Heather Dadds, said: “We decided that if our residents couldn’t get to the shops, we would bring the shops to them.  We are setting up the mall on Thursday, May 26 between 11am and 4pm and are hoping that our residents, their friends and relatives will have a shopping experience like no other.”

‘Pop up’ stalls will be set up in the home, with participating traders including dress shop Dawn’s, Phoenix Cards and Avon Cosmetics, along with original items on a jewellery stand.

Heather added: “We have already had a fantastic response from local stores and traders but we are very much hoping others will join in. Anyone is welcome but we are particularly interested in hearing from menswear retailers.”

Barking Hall recently underwent an expansion programme, increasing the number of residents to 49. It is owned and run by leading East Anglian care provider Healthcare Homes, which has another 22 homes, Manorcourt Homecare and daycare centres under its management.

Healthcare Homes Chief Executive, Richard Clough, said: “Activities like this are very important to ensure that our residents feel part of their community.  It’s a great opportunity for them to get together with their friends and family and spoil themselves.”
