Chance for student photographers to snap up a top prize

Oct. 4, 2012 - PRLog -- Canvas prints worth up to £65 are up for grabs in the competition being run by leading photo sharing website SmugMug, the creators of the Camera Awesome app.

Students must take and edit their photos using the free app then email them to SmugMug by October 15. The competition has three categories – Campus Life, Friends and New Beginnings.

Denise Gamboa, SmugMug Director of Marketing, said: “We’re looking for the most unusual and exciting snaps from freshers as they start their exciting new lives. Images can range from obscure angles of buildings to a shot representing something they’ve never done before or a great portrait of a fellow fresher.

“We’re looking for images that capture the eye of the expert or amateur. That’s what makes a great photographer.”

Camera Awesome is easy to use and enables everyone to take sharper, better exposed photos, with features including self timer, image stabilisation and fast burst – all perfect for those wild nights in the Students’ Union!

The app also allows users to add filters, textures and effects with preset styles like More Wang or Goddess which add an artistic feel to the images.  New and existing photos can then be Awesomized at the touch of a button and uploaded directly to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Instagram and more.  

The SmugMug team will choose the most “awesome” photo from each category, based on their composition, originality and overall appeal.  The winners will then receive a voucher worth up to £65 to be spent on turning their photo into a canvas print - ideal for decorating student digs.  The category winners will also receive a year’s free account with SmugMug, where they can auto-archive all their photos online.

There are no limits on the number of photos that can be entered into the competition. The SmugMug team will post their favourite pictures at www.facebook.com/Awesomize and www.awesomize.com each Friday.  The three winners will be announced on Friday, October 19.
