Oh Baby! Fitness Brings Prenatal and Postnatal Fitness to Savannah Moms

Prenatal and postnatal water aerobics and stroller fitness class varieties begin in March in Savannah, Ga.

Feb. 15, 2011 - PRLog -- ATLANTA, Ga. and SAVANNAH, Ga. — Savannah moms and moms-to-be interested in exercising safely, bonding with their baby and meeting other moms while pregnant and/or after baby is born, now have a fitness choice with local classes offered by Oh Baby! Fitness. Atlanta-based Oh Baby! Fitness, which offers the widest variety of pregnancy and mom & baby exercise classes in the country, begins classes in Savannah on March 5. Classes will be available at the Chatham County Aquatics Center and Lake Mayer Park.

“Oh Baby! Fitness helps moms exercise safely in the company of fellow moms during pregnancy and after giving birth,” says Clare Schexnyder, mom, owner and co-founder of Oh Baby! Fitness. “In our classes, we help women get strong, gain confidence about becoming mothers and make new friendships --- all at the same time! I’m thrilled to bring the Oh Baby! Fitness experience to moms and moms-to-be in Savannah.”

Pregnancy Water Aerobics and Mom & Baby Water Aerobics (H2Oh Baby!) classes will begin at the Chatham County Aquatics Center on March 5. Pregnancy Water Aerobics classes meet Mondays at 6pm and Saturdays at 11am. Mom & Baby Water Aerobics (H2Oh Baby!) classes meet Tuesdays at 11am and Saturdays at 11am (for a four-week session). All classes are lead by a certified prenatal/postnatal instructor who helps moms use the water as a natural resistance to conditioning, strengthening and relaxing. Moms may sign up for an entire session or pay per class.

On March 7, Oh Baby! Fitness will begin Stroller Workout classes at Lake Mayer Park. Stroller workout classes are available on Mondays and Thursdays at 11am. These sessions are led by a certified postnatal instructor who guides moms through a challenging circuit walk focused on muscle conditioning, strengthening and stretching, as well as abdominal exercises. Moms can choose whether to attend an entire session or on a class-per-class basis.

Savannah mom Misty Bethune Selph, who recently gave birth to her second child, reached out to Oh Baby! Fitness to help bring prenatal and postnatal classes to the Chatham County Aquatics Center in Savannah. “Savannah has a clear void of exercise classes for moms and babies,” says Selph, who is also the manager of the Chatham County Aquatics Center. “As a mom who works full time, I really wanted more opportunities to do things with my children. So we explored programs for our aquatics center and found Oh Baby! Fitness. After meeting with Clare and learning about her prenatal and postnatal program, we knew it was a perfect fit for us.”

A note about exercising while pregnant: The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends 30 minutes of aerobic activity on most days of the week while pregnant. Exercise during pregnancy can help control weight gain, shorten labor, reduce the chance of a c-section birth and help relieve the common complaints of pregnancy (including back pain, leg cramps, swelling, constipation and insomnia).
