Covert Policing Conference - 31 March 2011. Dunchurch Park Conference Centre, UK

The world of covert policing is an ever emerging and changing arena and our covert policing conference aims to showcase some of the cutting edge advances in this area.

Our expert line-up of speakers will look at emerging tactics, debate challenges and provide advice on how to make effective use of covert solutions in an operational context at a time when budgets are limited.

We will provide advice on how best to incorporate covert tactics into your overall investigation strategy and look at some of the potential solutions that you might not be aware is available.

We will also look at how to ensure your covert tactics stand up to scrutiny and ensure you achieve best evidence.

Speakers
We are delighted to announce an expert line-up of speakers who are leaders in the covert field. They include:

Iain O’Brien, Head of Covert Policing, West Midlands Police: Ian will look at the current covert challenges focussing on area including:
• Infiltration on the internet
• Use of surveillance
• Covert tasking

Ian Hynes, Greater Manchester Police major incident team:
Ian will look at 'Witness Immunity from Prosecution - Assisting Offenders' – a practitioner’s insight into immunity and restricted use undertakings in accordance with SOCPA 2005.

Peter Russsell and Tim Easlea are highly experienced trainers who played a prominent role in shaping covert policing policy and operational activity in the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) as well as at a national level for the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA). They will explore the wealth of covert potential that is available to SIOs that they might not be aware exists.

Andrew Mawhinney, a former fellow PSNI officer with a specialism in firearms and covert policing and now consultant will look at ‘Covert Policing and the Exploitation of the Intelligence in order to obtain Best Evidence for a Court Room.’

William Parsons, SEL Systems:
William has worked in the covert arena for many years and will provide an industry view on the importance of developing a ‘covert mindset.
