Feb. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- There is about £70 pounds difference between the BlackBerry Torch 9800 and the BlackBerry Bold 9780. But which is the best smartphone for you?

These two are stars of the RIM stable, both featuring the BlackBerry 6 OS. The first difference you will notice is in appearance. The BlackBerry Bold 9780 features the classic BlackBerry body, with its large qwerty keyboard and optical trackpad. The Torch 9800, meanwhile, keeps its keyboard neatly hidden away, a full qwerty layout available to flip out from beneath the phone's body. It's worth noting the slight reduction in size of the keyboard on the Torch means that for those with larger fingers, typing might not be quite so accurate. http://www.clove.co.uk/blackberry-torch-9800

The BlackBerry 9800 measures 111x62x14.6mm and weighs 161g on account of the flip out keyboard. When that keyboard is extended the length of the device is 148mm. The BlackBerry Bold 9780 is a lighter phone, weighing 136g and measuring 114x66x15mm.

Both the Torch 9800 and the Blackberry 9780 have excellent screen resolutions of 480 x 360 pixels. If you're looking at screen size, the Torch has a 3.2 inch capacitive touchscreen, while the Bold's screen is 2.44 inches and does not feature touchscreen ability. While the bigger screen is a real boon for watching videos, viewing photographs etc, it can lead to graininess when reading text.

When it comes to taking photographs, the Bold has a 5 megapixel camera with 2x digital zoom, flash, and VGA video recording. The Torch also has a 5 megapixel camera and SD video recording.

Both of these RIM smartphones are robustly built to withstand the trials and tribulations of everyday life. The BB 9780 has a faux leather back while the BB Torch 9800 has a ribbed back that makes it easier to grip.

In terms of internet browsing and staying in touch via BlackBerry Messenger, email, Twitter or Facebook there is very little to choose between these phones.

Both have an internal storage capacity that is expandable to 32GB via microSD card, although it's worth noting the Bold's built in storage is smaller, at 2GB, while the Torch comes with 4GB built in. http://www.clove.co.uk/blackberry-bold-9780

When it comes down to picking between these two RIM stalwarts, much is really down to personal taste. If you're keen to do a lot of typing on your phone (and many BlackBerry fanatics are) then the BB Bold 9780 with its standard qwerty keyboard is the one for you. However, those with more slender fingers or who like the convenience of having a touchscreen option would be better to opt for the BB 9800.

Both are available, unlocked and sim free, from Clove Technology.
