The conference room was packed till the end of the last session on day two; delegates were very enthusiastic as the conference discussed the main future opportunities in the Iraqi oil and gas industry. The workshop on the third day was equally success and was also packed with delegates debating and asking questions to the workshop instructors Dr Asri Mousa and Jay Park Q.C.

The Iraqi Government Spokesman is quoted at the conference saying “I assure you, Iraq is the right country for future investments as it has tremendous opportunities. On behalf of the Iraqi Government, I would like to welcome you to explore the opportunities and you will discover a courageous nation who is hospitable and bravely building its own democracy.”

The Governor of Basra welcomed all the investors to Basra in a strong message “Lord Howell commented at the opening of the conference, the fact that this huge conference hall is packed full – and this on a cold Monday morning with a tube strike – is a sure sign of the importance of the issue – the future of Iraq, of its energy sector and of the wider Iraq-UK relationship. We see Iraq as a partner. We see it as a highly significant player in the new global landscape– a landscape in which East and West have intermingled, in which developed and emerging powers connect and overlap.”

Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Iraq H.E. John Jenkins commented “The timing could hardly be better; with a new Government in prospect Iraq is the most significant new entrant – or – re entrant – in to the global energy markets in decades.”

The conference been described by the media as historical, the outcome and the results were of significant benefit for the Iraqi oil and gas industry. Conference sponsors and delegates were very impressed with Iraq Petroleum 2010 and discussions for participating in Iraq Petroleum 2011 have already begun.
