Follow on Google News | Congressional Candidate Madore wins MPR debate; Kline fails to justify earmark positionLike the hurricane force winds that blew into Minnesota today, Second Congressional District candidate Shelley Madore overtook incumbent Republican John Kline, in the only debate Kline agreed to, on Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) yesterday.
A strong debater, Madore refuted Kline's points again and again, returning the conversation to the issues that really matter to Second Congressional District voters. Kline supports repealing the current health care reform. "Does he want to repeal free cancer screenings? Does he want to repeal lifetime caps? As a parent of two disabled children, let me tell you that's a worry for me every day," Madore said. "I think there is a lot of work we need to do on health care. Moving backwards is not the way for us to go." As a health care policy expert, Madore argued that the most important issues of the day all tie back to health care: education, Social Security, Medicare and job creation. In his opening remarks, Kline focused on big Washington spending. Madore spoke about job creation, easing the burden on families' wallets and building a future for our children. Madore questioned why Kline is fighting so hard to keep tax cuts for high income earners. "In our district...the average household income is $61,000 a year. Mr Kline's position here is not helping anybody if he's going to fight for...$250,000 earners and above." Shelley Madore asks voters, "Who do want fighting for you?"
