Follow on Google News | 2nd Annual Video Game Marathon to Raise Money for Child's Play CharityStarting Thursday, November 4, gamers from Raleigh, NC will host their 2nd 1,000 song internet marathon from the "Rock Band" video game series to benefit Child's Play, a charity which donates toys, games, and books to children's hospitals worldwide.
By: Joey DeSena "With the success of our first marathon last year we were very excited to put on the event again,” said Joey DeSena, event co-coordinator. “Literally the day the last one ended, we started brainstorming ideas to work out the kinks in the next marathon, while making it bigger and more successful. Our goal is to raise $5,000 this year for children’s hospitals." Event co-coordinator Daniel Cordaro also added, "We've always wanted to show the ways that the gamer community can come together to make a real difference in people's lives all over the world. The marathon allows us as gamers to give back to our communities while playing the games we love." Last year’s event raised more than $2,000 for the charity, with more than 25,000 unique viewers watching over 3 days. This year, the group is making use of the recently released “Rock Band 3”, which not only makes a whole new playlist of songs available but also a keyboard accessory. In addition, the group is using social media to promote the event, including a Twitter contest where viewers can win prizes. Watch the event live on the Internet at www.clanofthegraywolf.com beginning Thursday, November 4, 2010 at 1pm EDT. Viewers who wish to support the event are encouraged to donate directly to Child's Play securely through PayPal on the event website. Donations for the event will be accepted from October 24 through November 15. # # # The Clan of the Gray Wolf is a trio of blogger/filmmakers who discuss many aspects of geek culture, including games, movies, and television.
