WellMed Lauded For Worksite Health Initiatives

Sept. 30, 2010 - PRLog -- San Antonio, TX – WellMed Medical Management is among nine employers cited for its worksite wellness programs in the inaugural Healthy Workplaces Recognition Program.

Healthy Workplaces is sponsored by San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (Metro Health) and the San Antonio Worksite Wellness Task Force. The program cited employers who demonstrated senior management support of employer-sponsored worksite wellness programs. Winning employers provided examples of a company culture supporting employee health and wellness, including health promotion and education, physical activity, nutrition, smoking and tobacco cessation, and employer-sponsored health benefits.  

Employers were recognized in Gold, Silver and Bronze levels. WellMed, the only healthcare company to make the Healthy Workplaces list, was awarded Silver-level recognition.  

Other employers on the list were USAA, North East ISD and Northside ISD in the Gold level; City of San Antonio, San Antonio Water System, Security Service Federal Credit Union and Valero in the Silver level; and Harland Clarke Holdings in the Bronze level.  Representatives were honored at a reception Wednesday (Sept. 29) at the American Heart Association, 8415 Wurzbach Road.

The San Antonio Worksite Wellness Task Force, currently coordinated by Metro Health, is a local collaborative of employers and providers of worksite wellness programs and services which aims to improve the health of the San Antonio workforce by providing the business community with opportunities to network, discuss best practices, and promote worksite wellness initiatives.
