Sept. 7, 2010 - PRLog -- Mobile. Disasters are a part of the lifestyle of people living in the Gulf Coat Region.  And, with every disaster restoration, renovation and replacement of property becomes a critical issue for homeowners.  Insurance premiums for homeowners and renters increase yearly, with over one-third of homeowners inadequately uninsured.  And, still over 40,000 families in Baldwin and Mobile Counties have been dropped by their insurance companies.  If another disaster occurs, will there be any insurance companies left who will provide coverage, much less affordable coverage for the low income and working poor?

Project Connect Consortium meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the International Trade Center, Killian Room (1st floor), 250 North Water Street, Mobile, AL 36602. (near the Alabama State Port Authority) from 8:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.  The consortium meeting is free. Breakfast will be available for $10 per person. Please RSVP by Friday, Sept. 24, to LaTonya Wells, 251-865-9731 or lwells@tricoastalcommunity.org, as headcount is needed for the caterer.  Payment may be made at registration.

Representatives from the Homeowners’ Hurricane Insurance Initiative will present a summary of their three-year findings, discuss the severity of the homeowners' insurance crisis, the interwoven terrain of economics and politics, and the solutions that are being protested by the lobbyists.

There will be an informal group discussion about this issue, as well as networking opportunity to meet other attendees.  A special  “Caring for the Caregiver” gift basket will be given to a lucky attendee. Please bring one item that you would like someone to give you as a personal pampering gift for the October basket.

The goal of Project Connect Consortium is to connect ‘ people to people ‘ who are involved with nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies, faith-based and community-based organizations, healthcare agencies, educational institutions, and other critical incident-related businesses and/or interested individuals located in the Gulf Coast region including Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi, who want to connect with other individuals and organizations and have an opportunity to share their challenges, opportunities, and concerns with each other.

For more information about the consortium and how you or your organization can get involved, contact Carolyn Thompson, (228) 623-0017 or carolyn@tricoastalcommunity.org or visit the website www.nationalpcc.org.
