Ray LaMar founded LaMar’s Donuts on the principle of using only the highest-quality ingredients. He also took the greatest care in making each and every donut a masterpiece. Today, LaMar’s has 28 stores in six states, and they carry out the LaMar’s tradition by producing over 45 different varieties of donuts using the same recipes as Ray LaMar.

Every morning, when the majority of LaMar’s customers are still fast asleep, LaMar’s begins producing the hot, fresh and delicious donuts and coffee their customers have come to love. Celebrate the LaMar’s tradition in September with their signature product, one dozen glazed donuts, for only $5.00.

The Early Years
- Ray LaMar was just 17 years old when he started making donuts for Jack Frost Do-nut Shop in midtown Kansas City as a fryer. For two years, he worked seven days a week before he learned that he was supposed to get one day off a week. After serving in World War II, he returned to the business he loved – making donuts. In 1960, he opened LaMar’s on Linwood Boulevard in midtown Kansas City. Locals immediately flocked to the homemade donuts and LaMar’s Donuts became a Kansas City institution. Lines started forming before 6 a.m.
- For years, Ray LaMar headed to the original location on Linwood at 3am. After selling some 11,000 donuts a day, they were lucky to leave by 3pm.
- In 1998, Ray LaMar appeared on the “Tonight Show” where Jay Leno dubbed him the “King of Donuts”.
