Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix: A Shortcut to Healing

Patient's own blood used to promote faster healing

Aug. 19, 2010 - PRLog -- Advances in technology over the past decade have created a way to turn a patient’s own blood into a cell-rejuvenating catalyst. This method is called PRF and is being utilized by  the periodontal specialists at Joseph R. Nemeth, D.D.S. & Associates in Southfield, MI.

PRF stands for platelet rich fibrin and describes a process of using all-natural platelet gel from a patient’s body to stimulate bone and soft tissue growth for faster healing.

Drs. Joseph Nemeth and Amar Katranji use PRF in conjunction with surgical treatment. They are two of the only dental/medical practitioners using this technique in the Detroit area. “It’s a truly remarkable new technology and a wonderful service we can offer to patients,” Dr. Nemeth explains, “tissue response is very impressive because it uses only substances from the patient’s own body.”

To create the PRF material, blood is taken from the patient and spun by a special machine into a platelet concentration and is then produced into membranes which are rich in white blood cells and blood vessel growth factors. The membranes are then placed on or over the area which accelerated healing is desired.

The concentrated membrane material promotes wound healing and sealing, bone growth, and graft stabilization.

For over 25 years, Dr. Nemeth has been on the leading edge of patient care. He continues to incorporate new technology and techniques into his practice to ensure his patients receive state-of-the-art dental treatment.
