By: Chyna Brackeen, Attack Monkey Productions The distillery’s Original Moonshine, based on a century old mountain recipe, is the first legal moonshine to be manufactured and sold in Tennessee's history. Moonshine Cherries, an Appalachian tradition, is the first product of its kind to be sold in package stores – maraschino cherries soaked in 100 proof moonshine. Ole Smoky opened its Gatlinburg store and distillery in July to rave reviews and brisk sales. The facility offers free tours as well as free tastings of moonshine products. Until now, the distillery’s moonshine products were only available for purchase via the Gatlinburg store. Distillery owners Joe Baker, Tony Breeden and Cory Cottongim chose B&T Distributing because of its strong commitment to the Smoky Mountain area and their shared excitement for East Tennessee’s first legally distilled spirits. “After a terrific grand opening in July, we’re now seeing a lot of demand for our products in package stores, restaurants and bars.” said Joe Baker. “We are growing quickly and look to be one of Tennessee's leading distilled spirits brands. We're very proud of our products and are ready to make our moonshine available throughout East Tennessee.” Baker said. Ole Smoky is the first federally licensed distillery in the history of East Tennessee. Jack Daniels and George Dickel received their licenses before Prohibition, and Prichards Rum opened their Tennessee facility in 1999. Ole Smoky is the only distillery in the state dedicated to moonshine products. # # # Tennessee's first legal moonshine distillery, offering superior mountain-made moonshine.
