June 30, 2010 - PRLog -- Families believing a holiday in the UK will be cheaper need to think again as new research shows that flying away and taking a holiday in such as Cyprus or Turkey can still be cheaper than in the UK.

The Tesco Travel Money research looked at holiday expenses including accommodation, car hire, eating out and family entertainment to calculate how much a week away this summer could set a family of four back.

A week spent in Bulgaria would cost a typical family of four £1,221 compared to £2,209 for a week in Brighton. Notably, Bulgaria’s costs have dropped by 22% since last year making it the most affordable option this summertime.

Other bargains include Budapest, Hungary at a cost of £1,455 and Limassol, Cyprus for £1,739.

While they did not include the travel costs to get to the holiday destination, with such a wide price gap in many locations it would still be cheaper even once the cost of buying a cheap flight is included.

Holidays in the economically struggling destinations of Spain (£2,375) and Greece (£2,054) will cost more than the UK with overall costs having risen by six per cent since last year.

So it really is essential to research the costs of where you are going. So too you need to make sure you get the best deal on your holiday currency. As the pound strenghtens against the Euro it might be time to take advantage and get good exchange rates.
