Best Canceled Unsuccessful Video Games - 2010 PC Games Magazine - PCGameTrek.com

Of all the games coming out per year, is developing a good amount that does not reach fruition. Sometimes the project fails to be made public, but in many cases look forward to a title which then terminates canceled.

May 23, 2010 - PRLog -- The video game industry is undoubtedly fantastic. Beyond its problems and the plight of overtime that can be for developers, who are the other side and get the final product, we enjoy truly incredible game. Sometimes, we offer experiences for their interactive nature can not be matched by movies or novels. But of course, is not always that happy ending. Either because the project does not take flight or decisions made by big shots, some promising games are canceled and we must accept the harsh reality. Here, we have put together 10 of those sad cases where very promising titles were locked in the perpetual darkness of a drawer. http://www.pcgametrek.com/pc-gaming-industry-2010/

1- Fear Effect Inferno PC Game
Fear Effect series was always known for successfully blending survival horror and action. In addition to the original game, there was also a prequel, called Retro Helix. But in 2001 announced a third title for PlayStation 2. At the E3 2002 trailer showed that today is the only known material of the game, because after this presentation does not hear anything again about the project. It was not until 2004, after two years of pure silence, a leading development Eidos said that perhaps gave him another chance in the series with a new developer known as Crystal Dynamics, but the game then became Tomb Raider : Underworld.

2- Fallout 3 (Van Buren Project) (PC)
This is probably one of the most tragic stories in the industry, since not only was a highly anticipated title, but those who were waiting were very disappointed when Bethesda Softworks announced his own version of the title. Not that there's been bad, but that view was not Van Buren, the codename of the third Fallout developed by Black Isle. Several years ago leaked pictures and even a demo of the prototype and it was the first 3D series, but still maintained the isometric camera and turn-based combat that characterized the first deliveries. On a positive note, Fallout New Vegas, is being developed by Obsidian, where employees are still working old Black Isle and Interplay.

3- Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings PC
Yes, we know that the game came out, but we refer to this version of the Nintendo Wii. But the original, that we had with super realistic physical, which would be developed with the same technology as Star Wars The Force Unleashed. The Euphoria physics engine promised a different experience and seemed to have designed a battle worthy of Indiana Jones that generated animation at the time, which avoided the repeated movements. Originally we were going to watch the game in 2007, then moved to come out with the new movie in 2008. In the same year a representative denied rumors of a possible cancellation and early 2009 came a new trailer which omitted the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A few days later confirmed that the project was canceled by constant delays.

4- Star Fox 2 Video Game
Long before the blockbuster Star Fox 64, the SNES was the platform that spawned the series of flying fox, Fox McCloud. This sequel continued the story of the first but had a less linear structure, controlling several ships over a wide area to find enemies, which then passed the well-known combat system. The funny thing is that the Japanese version was almost complete and only missing pulirle bugs, but the launch of the Nintendo 64 decided to cancel. Clear that the launch was delayed much longer than expected and the console does not come out until 1996, a year after the supposed release date. In this way, it could be a Star Fox 64 as the true sequel, despite how different they were.

5- Star Wars: Battlefront III PC Game
As Fallout lesser extent, the third installment of Battlefront was expected by fans of the series, but never went beyond a mere rumor. No knowledge of the development of this title until early 2009, when leaked to the web a video of a preliminary version. And while the original developer, Pandemic Studios, is no more, now it is rumored that the Games would be developing Rebellion. I hope so.

6- Forever Duke Nukem
Definitely the most famous cancellation as an occasional broken record. Originally announced in 1997, the sequel to Nuke 3D Dukem went through several concepts, platforms and graphics engines, but never saw the light. After so many years, 3D Realms announced that due to lack of funds had to let go of the development team was working on the title. He then had legal problems with the distributor Take-Two Interactive and has implied that leaked information could come next Duke Nukem but not from the hand of 3D Realms.

7- Dungeon Keeper III PC Game
When EA bought Bullfrog and Peter Molyneux Lionhead went Sudi, Electronic Arts had the opportunity to develop a sequel to two games of the company. Populous, which was discarded because of its similarity to Black & White and Dungeon Keeper, whose fans clamoring for a third party. However, while going to keep the charismatic characters, thought to make a struggle between three factions and dungeons instead of building down, the idea was to build up castles. Because of the few sales going to change their structure to that of a strategy game in real time, which, according to the leader of development, the fans would hate.

8- Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans (PC)
Warcraft Adventures was a very strange case because it was being developed by a company making strategy games and RPGs, but it was a classic adventure game with a point n 'click. Already in the days when the genre was becoming less profitable, Warcraft Adventures was to leave late in 1997 and aimed to be a comic adventure, similar to Monkey Island, whose third title came the same year and was a clear competition. According to Bill Roper, one of the leaders of development, the cancellation came when they realized that the title "would have been very good three years before," confirming that the adventures do not have much future.

9- Oddworld: The Brutal Ballad of Fangus Kloto PC Game
The Oddworld series is very special, because it has a large following, but has never reached the level of worship as others with the same amount of fans. And when it was announced in 2005 that was going to be a new title for the original Xbox, fans were heard. Apparently going to have the same blend of action on first and third person Stranger's Wrath, the last game, and a more human character in a world much darker and political. The development only reached conceptual stage until the distributor, Majesco Entertainment, tried to change the deal with the developer. Not wanting to force a multiplayer mode, its creators chose to retire to develop their own money in the future. Supporters hope that Lorne Lanning still tell the story of the Oddworld universe.

10- Indiana Jones and the Iron Phoenix PC
With the success of Indiana Jones adventure games, especially Fate of Atlantis, it made sense to make a third installment. This was to be called Indiana Jones and the Iron Phoenix and went to tell the story of Indiana Jones in search of the Philosopher's Stone. Still not clear what was the reason for its cancellation, but we know that there were several problems, some artistic, others linked to the problems of censorship for distribution in Germany and finally output of Aric Wilmunder, programming leader. Although the game will always be forgotten, there is now a four-part comic published by Dark Horse Comics and inspired by the canceled game.

There are many other titles we'd canceled our right arm to see them on our screens, but it is also true that some ideas can not be implemented in some other projects go to become even more successful games. Of course this is not the case for all and sometimes you lose a jewel, like many other games that failed to enter the list, either Jazz Jackrabbit 3, TimeSplitters 4, The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf RPG or Aliens developed by Obsidian. Of all the games were never what was the one you broke my heart?
