May 5, 2010 - PRLog -- Touchtown, Inc., the senior living industry’s first choice for community information systems, was recently awarded a U.S. patent for a key component of Touchtown Safety, the company’s emergency call and notification product. The product is targeted to meet the emergency communications needs of the senior living industry and is currently being installed at major accounts throughout North America.

Touchtown Safety increases the safety of senior community residents by quickly delivering clear, easy to understand instructions to them during any type of emergency, from severe weather alerts to full-scale catastrophes. It also can be used to send targeted messages to residents for non-emergency situations, such as an upcoming event or meeting.  Staff can also change the severity of the alarms – issuing subdued tones or flashing lights for minor warnings and reminders.

The emergency call portion of Touchtown Safety enables residents to call community staff for immediate help during personal emergencies, such as a fall or a heart attack. To meet the latest guidelines from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), it will continue to function even if there is a complete loss of telecommunications, power, LAN and internet service.

The patented interactive Base Unit of Touchtown Safety is designed to be easy to use as well as attractive within the décor of senior residences. It offers check-in capability so that residents can give daily acknowledgements of their health. Touchtown also plans to offer lifestyle-oriented features to enrich the daily lives of residents.

“Our goal was to create a stylish, intuitive device that seniors enjoy interacting with on a daily basis so that they will be well-prepared to use it whenever emergencies arise,” notes Jeff Pepper, CEO of Touchtown. The patent number for the device is D614,617 and it was awarded on April 27, 2010. Mr. Pepper is listed as the primary inventor.
