Conservationists unite to help save Southern California's Santa Clara River

March 4, 2010 - PRLog -- To raise awareness of the plight of the endangered Santa Clara river on a national and international level, notable landscape photographer Peter Goin, head of the “Water in the West” photographic project, was commissioned to conduct a survey of the river system and its landscape.

These evidential images, together with new, additional photographic works to follow, will travel the United Sates in a museum exhibition and will later be monographed in a book, with the aim of helping save southern California’s last major wild river from extinction.

The photographs were commission by Animals on the Edge president Leo Grillo, who has dedicated fifteen years to bringing this project to fruition.

“This photographic survey is a visual reminder of another American treasure we cannot afford to ignore or lose," said Grillo. "Future generations will be thankful that we all worked together during our lifetime to save this river.”

The Santa Clara River became an endangered ecosystem in 2005. It flows from Acton to the Pacific Ocean, near Oxnard.

More than 38 species of threatened and endangered biology inhabit the river, its watershed and tributaries.
