By: Duke Machado January 29, 2010 duke@gopisforme.com (254-214-9368) Adding to high tension in the GOP, Hispanic Republicans endorsed Darren Yancy of Burleson for nomination as a candidate for State Senate District 22. "He's the only Republican candidate on the ballot who is running for the office," said Duke Machado, President of the Hispanic Republican Club of McLennan County. "He deserves for dedicated Republicans to fall in line behind him to ensure a Republican victory." Republican State Executive Committee Member Chris De Cluitt, a prominent Waco attorney and board member of the Brazos River Authority, recently urged party faithful to draft outgoing incumbent State Senator Kip Averitt, even though he is not actually running for the office due to health concerns. Such a move could force County Republican Chairmen in District 22 to nominate a candidate for the General Election, something that raised concern among the ranks of veteran GOP politicians. Among those concerned is former Republican State Senator Joe Sibley, an Austin lobbyist who served in the Texas Senate for many terms. He cautioned voters that such a move could wind up leaving McLennan County "cut up like a boarding house pie" in redistricting efforts. Likewise, Republican Party of Texas Chairman Cathy Adams responded just as quickly. She told voters that Mr. De Cluitt's views are not those of the state GOP. "With only a few weeks remaining until the Primary election in March, the Hispanic Republican Club is in high gear with block walking, sign posting and internet marketing," said Mr. Machado of the Hispanic Republican Club. He stressed the fact that Republican Hispanic organizers are quickly making inroads into the community of potential voters. # # # The Hispanic Republican Club of McLennan County is dedicated to advancing Conservative principles within the Hispanic Community.
