During these years, internet changed a lot, advanced and expanded eventually throughout all sectors including the hospitality industry.  
Website campaigns promoting hotels are increasing and the interaction with the consumer is eventually decreasing.  
Nowadays, most hotel companies use social media and the real time web technology as a marketing tool that outposts as a consumer service.  Most companies use these types of approaches with the use of similar ways, locations and personnel.  Some decide to choose from customer acquisition or customer retention.  Which one is the most important within the hotel industry? They both certainly are!  
Hotel businesses implement customer retention and customer acquisition separately during the year.  They are both important but also different so complete consideration should be given.
The Marketing Sector within the Hospitality Industry

Nowadays, marketing online became a very useful tool.  In the past, customers used to send complaint letters or appreciation, while nowadays one can post his/her comments on online blogs and write hotel reviews on hotel websites.

Because the web has put the customer communication on the first place, there are various available options that one can choose from when marketing his/her hotel.  Online web marketing is now serving as call centres which also engage customers to give ideas or criticism about the product/service received.  

Facebook, Twitter and YouTube are three examples of online marketing tools used by many businesses.  Not only does these serve to provide information, advertising and communication about the respective business (including the hotel industry), but one can communicate directly via an email or direct chat.  They also serve in helping to increase your hotel’s Page Rank (which is the rating of the page on the internet – the higher the page rank, the better the hotel is exposed online).

The web is a very powerful tool but it cannot do all the work.  The web is only one of the most important marketing tools available nowadays and this should be used and implemented in the right way so knowledge of the way the web works is very important.
