New Creative Writing Workshops For Kids Kickoff 2010 in the Greater Houston Area

In a time when children are ill-inspired to read or write, but quick to don a headset for their latest video game craze, author Melissa M. Williams is hosting youth creative writing workshops and an inspiration of hope for a chance to be published.

Children in the greater Houston, Texas area are invited to register and attend any of the three upcoming creative writing workshops from Houston's best-selling author of children's literature: Melissa M. Williams of the Iggy the Iguana chapter-book series.

Starting Saturday, January 16, 2010, Melissa Williams and LongTale Publishing will host its first of three workshops dedicated to children in grades third through sixth at the Houston Hobby Lobby. The second workshop will move to the Tomball Harris County Public Library for children in grades seventh through twelfth. This workshop will be held Saturday January 23rd. The final workshop will kickoff on Saturday January 30th for children in grades fifth through eighth and this class will also be held at the Tomball Harris County Public Library. Each workshop presents a similar theme--"creating a memorable character"--dedicated to the grade level of the students for each respective workshop. Parents and students are invited to choose from each of the three workshops and are encouraged to register early as seating is limited. Lunch will be provided and each attending student will receive one autographed copy of a book within the Iggy the Iguana children's chapter-book series. Each student will also be encouraged to submit their final story to the upcoming READ3Zero short-story contest: "I Write: Short-Stories By Kids, For Kids." Topics Include:

   * How to create a memorable character
   * Process of developing a storyline and plot
   * What you must ALWAYS include in your story
   * Different character types presented in best seller movies and literature
