Swiftwick Ceo Contributes Building To Nashville Non-profit

Ride for Reading to Move in New Headquarters this Saturday

Dec. 11, 2009 - PRLog -- NASHVILLE, Tenn – Swiftwick International CEO Mark Cleveland, will hand over the keys to Ride for Reading’s new headquarters at 10 a.m Saturday. Cleveland donated the use of his 4,000-square-foot building on Alabama Street off Charlotte Avenue for the local non-profit to use for operations, book storage and as a central bicycle hub for group bicycle rides and book deliveries to the Metro Nashville Public School system.

“Swiftwick has not only donated a home to Ride for Reading, but also an opportunity to the thousands of children who will receive books from us,” said Mathew Portell, Ride for Reading’s founder and director.  “Giving a child a book is giving them the opportunity to go anywhere, see anything and experience everything and Swiftwick is helping us provide the means.”

Ride for Reading previously used a 5 by 10 foot storage shed and Portell’s home to conduct business and grow the nearly 2-year-old organization. The new building has approximately 6 studded offices and an open space of 2,000 square feet in the back of the building with garage door access. The Charlotte Pike corridor is the recent topic of the Nashville Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, assembled to further a safer metro bicycling and walking community and is a perfect site for the new Ride for Reading headquarters.

“With more discussions from the BPAC about crosswalks, continuous sidewalks, bike lanes, mass transit with park & ride locations scattered throughout Charlotte Avenue, Ride for Reading will be able to deliver books safely and to more children in need across Nashville,” said Cleveland. “I’ve worked with Mathew since both our inceptions and am enthralled with his passion for helping others.”

Swiftwick, established a month prior to Ride for Reading, is also designing and manufacturing socks to generate proceeds for the non-proft organization through the Custom Socks for a Cause program.  Cleveland and Portell have supported the Southeast Off-Road Bicycle Organization and work together promoting the cycling community through donations, volunteering and trail building and maintenance in Nashville and the surrounding areas.
